Jime R. tells us about his experience in the USA as Work & Travel at a Resort in Park City.

Name: Jimena R.
Age: 20 years
Occupation: Economics student
Destination: Park City, UT
Company and position where you work: Westgaaste Park City Resort and Spa, Housekeeping.

-We would like to know how you are and how you feel, as a participant in the Work & Travel USA program

I really loved it, it was an incredible experience and I want to repeat it again next year haha it was super good.

-What was the experience for?

To know the American culture that I did not know, luckily I went to a small town and it was easier for me haha I did not practice so much English with my colleagues because they were all Latino but I spoke with the guests in English and there I could practice.
Then I made a lot of amazing friends, I came back in March and we still talk to each other.

-Was the work as you imagined it?

Yes, I knew that the work was medium strong and at first I did not want to know anything, but afterwards I was very well, I would not return to this position but safo haha, and they did not allow you to change to another position.
I had to clean and then they supervised you in your tasks, it wasn't too bad, but the next time I would look for another position like in the restaurant.

-How was the work environment? How was the relationship with other coworkers?

Super good, the truth. I had no problem with anyone, the supervisors were bigger but they were cool, and then with my coworkers we went on a trip to Las Vegas haha the atmosphere was very good.

-What were the best things about your job? And the worst?

The best things were the friends from Paraguay, Peru, Chile and Venezuela that I made and that most were from my position.
And the worst was in itself, clean haha but re well the same.
I went with a traveling friend and that made things easier haha having someone I already knew.

-What did you do on your days off?

We were going to ski to the hill, because since we worked 8 hours if we wanted to go skiing it was already closed, we also toured the city but since we had the ski pass we mostly snowboarded.
We became friends with a boy who was from Venezuela and had a car, so we would go to the city with him but we would not travel by transport that cost us 5 USD.
Anyway, transportation within Park City was free, that was very good because we also went to work by bus and we could save.

-Were you able to see other places?

Yes, we went to Las Vegas, Arches, the Grand Canyon and we had to get to know New York because we had to go back due to all this that happened after the pandemic.

-What surprised you the most?

What surprised me most was the people, they were super willing to help you, they were attentive and I loved the place. Also, I did not know snow, the truth is that I loved it and I could enjoy it.

-Any anecdote that you take as a souvenir?

Lol yes, in the lodging we had some mice to visit but we were able to solve it super quick haha because we called the owner of the apartment and he came to help us.
Then, the first time I got on the Snow, I had to walk down the mountain because it was no more of the falls, haha I literally learned about the falls.

-What would you recommend to someone who wants to follow in your footsteps?

Cheer up, and don't hesitate! Because at first able you think "oops it's 3 months and in another country", but they are all in the same and if or if you become friends.
If you have the possibility to do it, let them do it!
What Park City has, which I loved is that although it is a small town, in season it gets crowded and you have everything accessible to the city such as a Walmart close by, you adapt super easy.

All this information is very useful for us and for the boys who want to travel with the program for the next seasons, so we really appreciate your collaboration.
