Matias worked as a Cashier in Nevada. He traveled, he made friends and he tells us about his adventures.

Name: Matias B
Age: 20
Profession: International Trade Student
Destination: Reno, NV
Company and position where you work: Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - Cashier / Counter Help

What is the experience for?
The truth is that the experience is incredible, more than anything, it works a lot for me, the language, my work has a lot of interaction with American clients, and English is key, I improved it a lot, the relationship with my colleagues and with people. Surely repeat this trip.

Is work as you imagined?
No haha, being totally honest no. I think it was better than I expected. The truth is that they explained it to me in a different way, like I was going to go everywhere, and it turns out that they put me in the cashier that I love. I am mainly a cashier but it has a bit of what they told you about Counter Help. I make pizzas too, I'm going to look for vegetables, a bit of everything. We all do everything, that's good, because I didn't want to stay in front of a box for eight hours either. I feel when I get on the Bondi at the end of the job, but I'm stopped! With the movement we don't even think.

What is the work environment like?
Well, the truth is very good. I have a very good relationship with the manager, with the assistant and even with those who come to buy. The relationship with everyone spectacular. Sometimes they get very nervous.

How is the relationship with other coworkers?
Spectacular, I'm just with an Argentine friend of Misiones, and we get along really well. I keep this friendship for after the trip. With those of the night shift, I'm basically friends with everyone.

What are the best things about your job? And the worst?
The best: Interaction with costumers, with Americans. This fact that I am always moving, there is always something to do, time passes by quickly.
Bad things: the workplace itself is very small and when many people come and it's hot. There are times that we are eight and you can't move!

Could you visit other places?
Yes! I went to Las Vegas, to Lake Tahoe, California. I would have liked to travel more, but I am planning to already on my next Work & Travel!

What surprised you the most?
The relationship with the Argentines here. We are a fairly large group, like 20 J1, a spectacular relationship, whenever we see each other we get together to chat. Also I met people from all over like for example India.

What would you recommend to someone who would like to follow in your footsteps?
Do not be afraid to do it. I came alone, with many fears. When you get here, all the fear is gone.

Any anecdote that you take from the trip?
I have many! We celebrated a birthday, a football game, I could not stay with just one anecdote. New Year was a crazy, you had to go to the street to see the clock tick 12. My first new year in another place and without my family! Awesome. We drank with the boys, parties of the hotel, there is party here and the Argentines transform it.

All this information is very useful for us and for the kids who want to travel with the program the next seasons so we thank you very much for your collaboration.
Thank you very much! I liked that you and my agency were very attentive to me.
