Santi tells us about his Work and Travel experience, from Santa Fe to Jackson Hole!

Name: Santiago P.
Age: 22 years
Occupation: Industrial Engineering Student
Destination: Jackson Hole
Company and position where you work: Four Seasons Resort, Steward.

-We would like to know how you are and how you feel, as a participant in the Work & Travel USA program

The truth is that it is a very enriching experience despite the situation experienced this year with the pandemic, but we were very contained by everyone, as much as the Sponsor, the agency and the hotel.

-What is the experience for you?

It serves to grow in many aspects, as a professional future and as a person because you create a network of contacts and make many friends from different countries.

-Is the work as you imagined it?

Actually, I did not know what I was going to find, I had investigated a little but when I got there I was surprised for good.

Every day I had new tasks and I liked that, I did not know what I would find.
I washed the dishes, I was in a pastry shop, all the settings were beautiful and you knew different chefs.
I helped out at the bar too, which was kind of boring, because I always prefer to work as a team.
And lastly, he helped in the events, haha was like a wild card and was impressed by everything.
Despite my not so good English level, I was able to relate to everyone, luckily!

-How is the work environment? How is the relationship with other coworkers?

Both with employees and with others, it is a very nice environment, you can relate very well with everyone even if we have different languages.
I had no problem with any employer either, maybe there was a concern and they were always up to the task.

-What do you do on your days off?

The first weeks I had only 1 day off, and I was going to tour. I was in the "tourist village" where ski, snowbord, and skating is done, and I went there the first days.

Later, since I would go to work at 4, I would walk the town in the morning, I would go with the bus and it was good because you were filming or making a video call with the family, because most of the buses had Wi-fi, very good , and I did not have to remove any chip because in the common places they all had Wi-fi.

Also, I met many food places of different cultures such as the Thai, I took advantage of Fridays and Saturdays to watch the ice hockey games that I had never seen and I went about 10 times to snowboard, it took a long time to start because I did not have the equipment but through contacts I managed to get them to lend them to me.

Finally, for my birthday we rented a car and with friends we went to see an NBA game. I fulfilled a dream the truth!

-Were you able to see other places?

Due to what happened due to the pandemic, I had to change my flights and I am waiting to see Miami, Orlando and the route of the garages.

-What surprised you the most?

Day by day I was surprised by everything, I do not know if I would highlight something specific.
I was always surprised at how doors opened for me at work, that I could cook in the restaurant without being a cook, I had never imagined it.
This was given to me by the good relationship that I could establish with everyone!

-Any anecdote that you take as a souvenir?

I did 2 or 3 days snowboarding, and I encouraged friends to join me to not go alone, also as I had the chance to get some boards from the rental, I was teaching the boys a bit of what I knew, but at first He denied a little explaining.

On the 1st day we went with two friends to town a little late and we had to return the board before 4. When we were making the first descent one of the girls got stuck, took off the board from the boots and walked a little, but when he wanted to get back on the board, he went down the slope and had to go look for it 500 meters down, and on top of it he had bent his ankle.

-What would you recommend to someone who wants to follow in your footsteps?

Cheer up! Maybe because of the level of English they think they are not trained, but there are positions where you do not need such a good level, and if you really like the language you learn a lot from it.

There you have everything, you can meet many people from different places and if you work in the kitchen like me, you have free food! Hahaha
My supervisor for my birthday gave me a dinner for two in a luxury restaurant, the experience was 10 points.
It's very good!

- All this information is very useful for us and for the boys who want to travel with the program for the next seasons, so we really appreciate your collaboration.
