Testimonies
Work and Travel USA, de San Juan a Colorado!
More and more people choose Interlatina to travel abroad! As many already know, Work and Travel is a 3-4 month program that allows you to learn about new customs and cultures. In our case, the United States is the main destination.
For Interlatina it is important to know the experience of our participants. That is why we share this testimony made by one of our students:
- How are you?
Here all incredible! From graduates travel I feel!
- We would like to know how you are and how you feel, as a participant in the work and travel program.
This trip is incredible, not only because of the experience of living American life, which I must say is very easy and comfortable, but because you know people from all over the world, and all of Argentina especially and you make relationships that in your life you thought to know .
- We want you to tell us what you do on a typical work day
I am working for the Park Hyatt in Beaver Creek doing the turndown service, which consists of simply passing with a cart around the rooms offering a housekeeping service before bedtime replacing towels, water, coffee, chocolates and anything else the guest needs. Usually the turndown is at night, from 6 to 9, but as we enter at 2 o'clock in the afternoon, some days we help the women of housekeeping, or we make a joker helping where it is needed, as in laundry, loading docks or in the office fitting uniforms.
"Work was like you imagined?"
Actually, something very special happened to me, because I went with a job offer for ski vallet, but when I got there they told me that there was a misunderstanding and that the job offers were mixed with that of my traveling companion, and we exchanged positions . Honestly, now, I would not change the turndown for anything in the world. It is one of the positions with the highest salary and the highest number of hours worked. Around the other jobs have better tips, but when the paycheck arrives you can see the truth of Milanese! Ja
"What surprised you?"
I was surprised that I thought all the housekeeping jobs were to clean bathrooms, but the turndown is quieter than that and you can talk a lot with the guests who are very good, that surprised me as well. The good vibes that everyone gets.
-How is your relationship with other co-workers?
The relationship with my work buddies is the best, let's say they are my best friends, every day after work, we are going to have a beer or dance, and that we left very late for American life (type 11 at night ). The relationship with my supervisors is like that of my friends, they get caught up in everything we do ... Our manager out there is a bit more reserved, he has a good sense of humor, but since he works by day and is married he does not have as much feeling for the party.
-What are the best things about your job? And the worst?
The best thing about my job is that you have a good number of hours a week insured, with pre-established hours, so you are guaranteed a fixed paycheck at the end of the fortnight, and if you want to get a second job, you do it quietly because you know what day you have free .. That does not happen in other posts such as busser, server, food runner, ski vallet, because they call you according to the need they have to serve customers, not counting that we charge almost twice the other salaries, because it stipulates that we do not receive tips, but when there are, they are very good., another very good thing is that as we work on the night shift we can use the morning to snowboard ...
- How many hours are you working average per week?
I work 40 hours a week, some days they ask us to stay an hour more, but they are special cases
-How is the place where you are living?
I live in a apartment Two bedrooms and a living room with kitchen and two bathrooms. It is a complex of apartments. In which all Argentines, Brazilians and Peruvians work and travel, so there are parties every day, and so the police come every day to close the parties. All good with that, it is usual ... The resort is very good, it has a club house for meetings, a fitness center with sauna, and a hot tube outdoors .. The rent is not very expensive because it is a bit far of the resort where we work and you have to take a bus, but in 30 min you are there. I clarify that we are 5 in the apartment. And we live very well, but there are guys who live up to 9 in the same apartment!
"With whom do you share the accommodation?"
I share accommodation with Paula, my traveling companion, two Silver Sea guys we met on Facebook before coming, and a capital boy we adopted when we were here and had no accommodation. I must say that we had a good vibe and the coexistence is impeccable, but it was people who knew each other from Argentina and they had a very ugly time, they ended up moving and so on. I think that has to do with the predisposition that one comes to this trip. Not everything is pink on this trip and there are situations where you have to put your chest and take care of things ... It is not a tourism trip in 5 star hotel, it is an experience
