Gatlinburg, Tennessee

Facundo is a 22 year old university student who is on his second trip to Ober Gatlinburg Amusement Park and he tells us about his experience.

Name: Facundo S A
Age: 22
Profession: Fashion Design
Destination: Gatlinburg, TN
Company and position where you work: Ober Gatlinburg Amusement Park - Lift Operator

What is the experience for?
To generate connections, friendships and money. This year I made many friends. I study fashion design and here there are several who study design too. It also helped me to improve my English, since next year I want to do a Work & Study Canada.

Is work as you imagined?
Being my second season of Work & Travel, I already knew what I was going to find. I applied to the same position as Lift Operator.

What is the work environment like? How is the relationship with other coworkers?
The atmosphere is good. Both my colleagues and my supervisors are very good people. This year I noticed that they are more demanding with some things. For example, cell phones cannot be used at work this year. On the one hand I do not see it as a bad thing but on the other it is a bummer. Some of us have the privilege of using it if we work the top of the mountain, because we have to be attentive to the weather!

What are the best things about your job? And the worst?
The best things about work are the views. I usually work on the top of the mountain, and especially when there is sun, everything looks very white.
The worst? The physical excercise it requires. You end up tired at the end of the day! But on the other hand the pay is good haha.

Could you visit other places?
Yes. I met Martha’s Vineyard, I went to Boston to visit my aunt who lives there. I also visited Noxville, Tennessee, which is like a kind of Buenos Aires. And New York City which I loved very much!

What surprised you the most?
The great climate change there was. In 2016 there was a great fire that radically changed the weather here. This year there were more rainy and warm days.
