Teaching in US schools

Teachers USA lets you work temporarily in US public schools, at the preschool, elementary and middle school levels, with a J-1 visa. It's for advanced students, graduates and teachers over 20 with advanced English. Common destinations are Texas, Illinois, California, Arizona, New York and Wyoming.

Three categories based on your profile

Intern is for students or recent graduates of teacher training programs; Trainee, for graduates with at least 12 months of teaching experience; and Exchange Teacher, for licensed, practicing teachers. Intern and Trainee have 6, 12 or 18-month contracts. Exchange Teacher has 1 to 3-year contracts, extendable up to 5, and lets you travel with your family.

What you would teach

You can teach bilingual education, general elementary education, foreign languages, STEM or special education, among other areas. Besides teaching, you share your culture with your students through exchange activities. At school, you have an assigned mentor or supervisor.

When to get started

The school year starts in July or August, and schools usually interview from January to May, so it's best to start early. Before you receive your offer, you have two or three interviews with schools. Book an info session and we'll help you with your degree equivalency.
